I also came across OpenOSPFD, an OSPF routing daemon originally developed for OpenBSD, but it is marked as deprecated because it depends on an older CARP implementation.
I’ve noticed that Quagga is now deprecated and has been replaced by FRRouting (FRR), which is actively maintained.

When testing the script manually, it’s useful to see the logs directly in the terminal, while still sending them to system logs like sudo python3 carp-ovh-failover 2@vmx1 MASTER

Many changes:
- Improved script structure by separating configuration, helper functions, main function and application entry point.
carp-ovh logs were written both to /var/log/messages and /var/log/carp.log.
This change redirects them only to /var/log/carp.log by excluding them from /var/log/messages.
