Register to Libera Chat
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

As we moved from Freenode to Libera Chat, we can register a Nasqueron group, linked to the #nasqueron namespace. That allows also some benefits like the ability to create cloaks.

See https://libera.chat/chanreg/.

We should nominate group contacts, ideally responsible people and fairly reactive on IRC.

Event Timeline

dereckson added a subscriber: Sandlayth.

For reference, the group contacts intended for Freenode was initially @Sandlayth and @dereckson (members of IRC special interest group).

Per documentation suggestion, I'm reaching projects & community team to enquire if Nasqueron is eligible.

Our Libera contact is A_Dragon.

Mail with project details sent.

Update from June 2023 - Libera Chat registration done.

E-mail confirmation from Libera Chat:

A_Dragon sent us 2023-06-01 4:57:02 UTC:

Hi Dereckson,

Thank you very much for getting in touch with us. We have now registered you as a project, Nasqueron.

This means you could now claim channels in your namespace, e.g. #nasqueron and #nasqueron-*. For channels which don't yet exist, you should be able to do so yourself, else feel free to contact staff. You can also claim channels in your namespace using /msg ChanServ CLAIM #channel. Your full list of channel namespaces is: #nasqueron-*, #eglide-*.

Additionally, you can now optionally request cloaks for your team (or your users, or whoever you see fit). They have the format projectname/optional/mandatory, thus e.g. nasqueron/member/john or nasqueron/jane. Please note that only valid DNS characters are allowed (e.g. no underscores) for technical reasons and recipients need a registered account. Your full list of cloak namespaces is: nasqueron/*.

I added the following people as the Group Contacts for now: Dereckson, Sandlayth. Group Contacts are people who can claim channels and request cloaks for your group. If you would like to add other group contacts later, please tell us their nickname accounts via e-mail; changes to the list of group contacts is one of the few things that require an e-mail. You can manage Channel Ops by yourself with the flags command (/msg ChanServ HELP FLAGS). The group contacts should be able to (optionally) join #libera-communities, a channel made specifically for GCs and staff communication.

Feel free to forward this e-mail to your colleagues, too.

Of course you can always drop by in #libera or contact staff directly for assistance.
